Admitted to No 3 NZ Field Ambulance, 16 June 1917 (ICT arm); rejoined unit, in the field, 21 June 1917.

Awarded Military Medal for acts of gallantry in the field.

On leave to United Kingdom, 18 August 1917. Admitted to No 2 NZ General Hospital, Walton-on-Thames, 25 August 1917; under surveillance for venereal disease, 27 August 1917; transferred to Venereal Section, NZ Command Depot, Codford, 28 August 1917; to Venereal Section, No 3 NZ General Hospital, Codford, 1 September 1917; discharged from Venereal Section, 16 November 1917; rejoined unit, in the field, 1 December 1917.

Accidentally injured, 7 December 1917 (contusion, right knee: 'during the advance this man was helping with a heavy tripod. He fell into a trench, the tripod falling him, causing his injuries. He carried on for two days but had to give up. Not to blame.'

Killed in action, 19 February 1918.
