War service: Egypt, Western Front Accidentally injured, Egypt (broken ankles, knee: no further details recorded). Marched in to Sling Camp, England, 17 September 1916, and posted to Otago Company, 3rd Reserve Bn. Proceeded overseas to France, 26 September 1916; joined 2nd Bn, Otago Infantry Regiment, 18 October 1916, and posted to 10th Company. Admitted to No 3 NZ Field Ambulance, 18 January 1917 (mumps), and transferred same day to 1st Canadian Casualty Clearing Station; to No 7 General Hospital, St Omer, 19 January 1917; rejoined Bn, in the field, 15 February 1917. Found guilty, 27 February 1917, of being absent from Tattoo Roll Call, 8.20 pm, 25 February: awarded 3 days' Field Punishment No 2. Attached to NZ Working Bn, 12 March 1917.
