'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On August 26th 1918 in establishing a Water Point at Grevillers though the work was continually interrupted by shell fire, he kept up the work and completed it in time. Again in September 2nd while working with Infantry working parties on posts in front of Fremicourt the work was subjected to heavy shell fire, including gas, but the appointed work was completed under his direction. This NCO has always shown marked steadiness under shell fire and great resource in carrying out work.'
