'For conspicuous bravery and able leadership on 23rd October, 1918. On 23rd/24th his company was detailed to advance a distance of 1,000 yards, across the l'Ecaillon River east of Beaudignies, establish bridgeheads, and then make good the high ground 1,000 yards beyond the bridgehead. This he successfully accomplished, securing as prisoners three officers and seventy five other ranks and seven machine guns.'
