Military Medal 'In the La Basse Ville sector south of Warneton during the period 3rd to 5th August 1917, when the 4th Otago Company were holding the outpost line, Pte William Dolman, a company Runner, carried messages from his Company Headquarters to the outposts which lay through La Basse Ville. On several occasions when urgent Messages were required to be sent, Private Dolman went through the village under heavy shell fire. He displayed the greatest gallantry and coolness on many
occasions, especially on the 5th August. When the enemy placed a barrage around the village which was completely isolated. Private Dolman nevertheless went
forward alone to the Sugar Refinery for purposes of observation information as to
whether the enemy were concentrating for an attack.'
