War service: Western Front Embarked Wellington, 26 June 1916; disembarked Devonport, England, 22 August 1916, and marched into Sling Camp. Proceeded overseas to France, 26 September 1916; joined 2nd Bn, Canterbury Infantry Regiment, in the field, 13 October 1916. Found guilty, 26 December 1916, of demurring to comply with an order: awarded 5 days' Field Punishment No 2 and forfeited 14 days' ordinary pay. Rejoined unit, 28 August 1917. Admitted to No 2 NZ Field Ambulance, 6 September 1917 (scabies); transferred to No 4 Stationary Hospital, Arques, 6 September 1917; discharged from hospital, and rejoined unit, 12 September 1917.
