Mentioned in Despatches 'At Waterloo Farm on the 21st October 1917, under heavy shell fire, and after being half buried by a shell and severely shaken, this NCO at great personal risk, conveyed a wounded man to a place of safety, and returned with stretcher bearers for the remainder of the wounded. He afterwards visited the posts occupied by his platoon to see if any required help. He displayed great courage at a very trying time, and his action undoubtedly had great influences on his men.'
