Military Medal 'Operations: British Front near Beaudignies 24th October 1918. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On the 24th October 1918 after the crossing of the River Ecaillon South east of Beaudignies and while the advancing troops were
under heavy machine gun fire, the Lewis gun Section, to which Private Dickinson, belongs, was ordered to take up a position on high ground so as to bring fire to bear on enemy machine guns. While doing so the Corporal in command of the Section was killed. Private Dickinson immediately rushed forward, picked up the gun, got it into action, and by bursts of fire silenced the enemy gun, thus enabling the troops on the right, also held up, to advance. Private Dickinson having of his own initiative assumed command of the team of gunners, then took his sections to occupy the high ground on his right, which was the key of the position.'
