Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in leading his company in an attack. He established two posts and defended them against counter attack in
overwhelming force. Just before withdrawing he successfully made his way through heavy barrage with an order from his Company Commander to the supports. He set a brilliant example of gallantry and determination.'
