'From September until killed in action on the 11th October 1917 was in charge of 3rd N.Z.F.A. Brigade Signals. He displayed great zeal and devotion to duty, and set a splendid example to his men under fire on several occasions, especially during the heavy fighting at Gravenstafel, near Ypres, from 1st to 11th October 1917.'
