War service: Western Front Embarked Wellington, 26 June 1916; disembarked Devonport, England, 22 August 1916; posted to Otago Company, Sling Camp, 23 August 1916. Found guilty, 22 September 1916, of being absent without leave from 8-21 September 1916: awarded 28 days' detention, and forfeited 14 days' pay under Royal Warrant. Found guilty, 25 October 1916, of (1) escaping from confinement and (2) disobedience: awarded 6 months' imprisonment; unexpired portion of sentence awarded as from 29 December 1916. Marched into Codford, 17 February 1917. Marched out to Records Section, London, 14 April 1917; marched in to Command Depot, Codford, 5 May 1917. Found guilty, 10 May 1917, of being absent without leave, 1-5 May 1917: awarded forfeiture of 5 days' pay, and fined additional 5 days' pay.
