'For bravery in the field during the operations of 4th November, 1918 at Le Quesnoy. As a Stretcher Bearer he did invaluable work at great personal risk, bandaging and carrying out wounded for long distances, under heavy shell fire, over very difficult country. He carried on without rest for 24 hours, refusing to be relieved until all wounded had been carried in. His courage and spirit of self sacrifice were of a high order throughout the whole of the operation.'
