Embarked to join the British Expeditionary Force, France, 6 April 1916. Wounded in action, 14 September 1916 (gun shot wound, wrist and left thigh), and admitted to No 2 NZ Field Ambulance; transferred same day to No 2 Casualty Clearing Station; to 30th General Hospital, Calais, 14 July 1916; to England, 16 July 1916, and admitted same day to No 2 London General Hospital, Chelsea; transferred to NZ Convalescent Hospital, Hornchurch, 2 August 1916; discharged to NZ Command Depot, Codford, 16 September 1916.
