Military Medal 'For great gallantry and initiative. Near Gravenstafel on 4th Oct., during the attack on the final objective, he took command of his platoon when his platoon commander was killed, and directed operations with great skill, displaying splendid leadership. He displayed great dash in the attack on the final objective and assured its capture, afterwards rendering great assistance in the consolidation of the position. He acted throughout with the utmost courage and set a splendid example to his men.'
