Proceeded overseas to France, 1 March 1917; joined 1st Bn, Canterbury Infantry Regiment, in the field, 25 May 1917, and posted to 2nd Company. Wounded in action, 28 May 1917 (gun shot wound head: slight), and admitted to 10th Australian Field Ambulance; discharged to Reinforcements Camp, 31 May 1917; rejoined unit, in the field, 19 June 1917. Killed in action, 12 October 1917. Note on file, 23 February 1918: 'Buried Passchendaele ... in and all about this region & Bellevue.
