Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry in leading bombing attacks against the enemy during the operations on 12th September 1918, at Trescault Ridge. L/Corporal Cullen was a Section Commander and when his Platoon Commander and Platoon NCOs had
become casualties, he took over the command of his Platoon. When the enemy bombed down a sap he was foremost in resisting the attack, and, while the enemy bombers were pressing he organised and led two attacks against them. By his coolness and courage at a time when our defence was badly disorganised as the result of heavy casualties he was able to save the situation. He set a very fine
example under very dangerous and difficult circumstances.'
