Distinguished Conduct Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. When the sergeant in charge of a carrying party was wounded and the party became disorganised by enemy shelling, he took charge on his own initiative, reformed the party and led them forward successfully to their destination through a heavy barrage. He showed splendid courage and initiative.'
