Military Medal 'Operations opposite Polderhoek 27th November to 5th December 1917. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. At 1pm on 3rd December 1917, during the attack on Polderhoek Chateau, Private Angell, regardless of personal danger got well forward of the main line, and with a few other men established himself in a shell hole which he held heroically until ordered to fall back on the new front line, where he again displayed great courage and determination during the consolidation. Furthermore, during the bombardment on the afternoon on 5th December, when his Section was in the most exposed portion of the trench, he
twice voluntarily went the whole stretch of the line for stretcher bearers.
Throughout the whole of these operations Private Angell?s gallant conduct was a
source of great encouragement to all his comrades, and a wonderful assistance to
his superior Officers.'
