Proceeded overseas to France, 14 September 1916; joined 1st Bn, NZ Rifle Brigade, in the field, 1 October 1916, and posted to D Company. Admitted to No 1 NZ Field Ambulance, 5 May 1917 (mumps); discharged to Reinforcements Camp, 23 May 1917; rejoined unit, in the field, 24 May 1917. On leave to United Kingdom, 19 August 1917; rejoined unit from leave, 1 September 1917. Found guilty, 26 September 1917, of overstaying leave: deprived of 4 days' pay (gross).
