Embarked Port Said to join the British Expeditionary Force, France, 9 April 1916. On leave, 17 August 1917; rejoined Bn, in the field, from leave, 31 August 1917. Admitted to No 4 NZ Field Ambulance, 26 September 1917 (diarrhoea), and transferred same day to 4th Casualty Clearing Station; discharged to duty, 4 October 1917; marched in to NZ Base Depot, Etaples, 6 October 1917. Transferred to 1st Bn, Otago Infantry Regiment, 20 October 1917; joined Bn, in the field, 11 November 1917, and posted to 4th Company.
