Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in the field on the 26th day of March 1918 north east of Mailly Maillet. This man was company runner and showed great bravery during the advance of his company. He took a message from one of his company officers to the Company Commander reporting the position of the right platoon of the Company. In doing so he went across open country, swept by
heavy machine-gun fire by the enemy, and showed utter disregard of his personal safety.'
