Military Medal 'For gallantry and devotion to duty during operations at Gravenstafel. This man repeatedly went out to the forward posts especially on the night of the 4th of October. By his coolness under fire and his systematic searching of shell holes he brought in many men who were lying out. He continued this work for 24 hours and then after a short rest took charge of a new squad and continued to search the shell holes. He set a fine example of endurance to his men.'
