Admitted to No 3 New Zealand Field Ambulance, 18 May 1916 (bronchitis); transferred to Divisional Rest Station, Caestre, 22 May 1916; rejoined Bn, in the field, 2 June 1916.

Transferred to England, 2 July 1916, and admitted same day to 2nd London General Hospital, Chelsea; transferred to No 2 New Zealand General Hospital, Walton-on-Thames, 17 July 1916; to New Zealand Convalescent Depot, Hornchurch, 20 July 1916; to New Zealand Command Depot, Codford, 4 September 1916. Marched into Sling Camp, 6 October 1916.

Proceeded overseas to France, 17 October 1916; rejoined Bn, 7 January 1917.

Found guilty, 14 August 1917, of at Dunkirk being drunk and being in town without a pass: awarded 14 days' Field Punishment No 2.

Admitted to No 2 Australian General Hospital, 12 May 1918 (pleurisy); discharged to Convalescent Depot, 26 May 1918; to NZ Base Depot, 29 May 1918; rejoined Bn, 6 June 1918.
