Military Medal 'Gallantry and devotion to duty. Owing to casualties early in the advance, this NCO was the only Sergt left and rendered valuable assistance to his officer (H Bloomfield) in conducting the advance and afterwards consolidating under the exceptionally heavy fire the unit was subjected to. As Lewis gun NCO he handled his gun with marked ability and success.'
