Proceeded overseas to France, 24 November 1917; joined unit, in the field, 30 December 1916. Wounded in action, 29 September 1918 (gun shot wound, right thigh), and admitted to No 2 NZ Field Ambulance; transferred to 34th Casualty Clearing Station, 2 October 1918; to 18th US General Hospital, Camiers, 2 October 1918; to England, 12 October 1918, and admitted same day to Bethnal Green Military Hospital. Commenced return to New Zealand on board HMAT 'Port Melbourne', 25 January 1919; discharged, 10 April 1919.
