Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. When his squadron had charged and captured two enemy machine guns, it came under heavy fire from two field
pieces at about 1,000 yards range. He carried one of the captured machine guns to a ridge, and, in spite of being under direct artillery and machine gun fire, mounted it and opened fire on the gunners, driving them away from their guns.'
