Military Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in the field. During the attack at Le Quesnoy on the 4th November 1918, the advance of this platoon was held up by an enemy machine-gun post. This NCO immediately rushed the post alone, put the gun out of action and captured the crew. His prompt section undoubtedly saved the many lives, and he set a splendid example to his men, nearly all of who had not been in action before. Throughout the operation he behaved with skill and daring, and handled his section in splendid style.'
