War service: Western Front Embarked Wellington, 31 May 1916; found guilty, at sea, 8 July 1916, of being absent without leave: awarded 7 days' detention and loss of pay at set rate for the period; disembarked Devonport, England, 26 July 1916, and marched into Sling Camp. Proceeded overseas to France, 5 September 1916; joined 2nd Bn, Otago Infantry Regiment, in the field, 5 October 1916, and posted to 8th Company. Found guilty, 26 July 197, of drunkenness: awarded 20 days' Field Punishment No 2, and forfeited balance of all ordinary pay for 20 days: fine 10/-. On leave to United Kingdom, 11 September 1917; rejoined Bn from leave, 22 September 1917. Killed in action, 12 October 1917. Medals: British War Medal, Victory Medal |
