Proceeded overseas to France, 20 October 1916; joined 2nd Bn, Otago Infantry Regiment, in the field, 9 November 1916, and posted to 10th Company, and relinquished appointment as Temporary Lance Corporal. Admitted to No 2 NZ Field Ambulance, 18 July 1917 (injured hand), and transferred to 2nd Australian Casualty Clearing Station; to 3rd Australian General Hospital, Abbeville, 19 July 1917; to No 3 Convalescent Depot, Cayeux, 24 July 1917; to NZ Base Depot, Etaples, 6 August 1917; rejoined Bn, in the field, 11 August 1917.
