Military Medal 'At Messines on June 7th 1917. This gunner was one of the Forward Observation Officer's party on 7th June. He repeatedly went out under heavy shell fire to repair his telephone line in an endeavour to maintain communication. On one occasion, unaided, he rescued three wounded men from under a barrage, and carried them to a place of safety. He showed courage, cheerfulness, and devotion to duty, under exceptionally trying circumstances.'
