Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During the operations at Bon Avis Ridge on 29th September, 1918, he was in command of a platoon and it was due to his skilful leadership and great courage that it was so successful in the attack. During the advance he engaged and captured several enemy machine-guns and numerous prisoners and despite the greatest resistance led his platoon right through to its objective where he consolidated in the most skilful manner. He showed great coolness under fire and during the whole operations he showed a splendid example of what a leader should be.'
