Wounded in action, France (gun shot wound, shoulder), and admitted to 28th General Hospital, Rouen, 25 May 1916; transferred to England, and admitted to Brook War Hospital, Woolwich, 30 May 1916; transferred to Woodcote Hospital, 16 June 1916.

Admitted to Camp Hospital (Venereal Section), Grey Towers, 14 September 1916.

Admitted to No 2 Australian General Hospital, Boulogne, 4 March 1917 (sprained ankle, trivial injury; solder not on military duty at the time)

Reported missing, 12 October 1917.

Court of enquiry, 17 November 1917, concluded: 'Taking into consideration the circumstances of the attack of 12th Oct. 1917, it is reasonable to suppose that ... [he] was killed in action in the attack on Belle Vue Spur, 12 Oct. 1917.'
