Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in the field near Bancourt on the 30th and 31st August 1918. This man acted as Company runner and was continuously on duty during the above days. He carried five important messages under heavy machine-gun fire and through a barrage of shell fire without a spell, and on being wounded during his last trip, carried on and delivered his message before returning to Company Headquarters. He set a fine example throughout the operations.'
