Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. In a morning attack by the enemy he kept his section in action, covering the withdrawal of the remainder of the guns, then withdrew his guns to safety. He continued to work tirelessly, making three forward reconnaissances, rallying stragglers, and sending back good information. He was wounded on the fifth day of fighting while looking after his gun teams.'
