Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during the attack on the Passchendaele Ridge on 12th October 1917. This NCO led his section to assist another section in the capture of an enemy Strong Point. All of his section becoming casualties, he collected a few men and returned to help the other section who were in danger of being cut off by the enemy. He brought help to the parties before he was himself wounded.'
