Mentioned in Despatches 'On the morning of the 25th October 1916, near Flers the battery position was heavily shelled. During the time, the cookhouse was wrecked, the cook was killed and his assistant severely wounded and practically buried. The order had been given to evacuate. Gunner Bushell hearing the cook's assistant calling for help
immediately went back and succeeded in rescuing him from the debris and helped him reach the gun pit. He bound up his wounds and assisted by Corporal Duggan
(previously mentioned) succeeded in getting him to A.D.S. All this was performed under very shell fire.'
