'Operations opposite Polderhoek 3rd to 5th December 1917. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On the night of 3rd December this NCO was in command of a stretcher party in No Man's Land bringing in the wounded, and showed conspicuous gallantry in leading his men along the enemy wire. Although under heavy shell fire, he succeeded in bringing our wounded safely overland to a place of safety. He displayed remarkable coolness and leadership and devotion to duty throughout the night.'
