Military Medal 'Action in front of Belle Vue Spur, West of Passchendaele, 12th October 1917, and following days. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. This noncommissioned officer displayed great leadership and devotion to duty by taking his machine gun section forward under heavy fire, gaining a point of vantage, bringing his gun into action and silencing an enemy gun in a "Pillbox". His daring action and
personal bravery saved the lives of many of the men and set them all a splendid example.'
