On the 23rd and 24th October 1918 near Vertigneul this NCO was in charge of gun and ammunition G.S. limbered wagons which he moved forward by bounds under a considerable enemy barrage fire, making intelligent and clever use of covered approaches and depressions thus enabling the machine guns to be replenished with S.A.A. at successive positions to keep up continuous covering fire for our infantry. His initiative and resource combined with good leadership and cool control were largely instrumental in the successful advance.'
