War service: Western Front Embarked Dunedin, 21 August 1916; disembarked Devonport, England, 25 October 1916, and marched into Sling Camp. Proceeded overseas to France, 15 November 1916; joined 3rd Bn, NZ Rifle Brigade, in the field, 7 December 1916, and posted to A Company. Found guilty, 24 March 1917, of being absent from billet at Tattoo Roll Call, 9.30 pm, 20 March 1917: deprived of 5 days' pay. Found guilty, 19 May 1917, of being absent from Tattoo Roll Call, 9.30 pm, 16 May 1917: deprived of 2 days' pay. Wounded in action, 7 June 1917 (contusion, ribs); admitted to No 1 NZ Field Ambulance, 10 June 1917, and transferred same day to 77th Field Ambulance; rejoined unit, in the field, 19 Jyne 1917.
