War service: Western Front Embarked Dunedin, 21 August 1916; disembarked Devonport, England, 25 October 1916, and marched into Sling Camp. Proceeded overseas to France, 15 November 1916; joined 2nd Bn, Otago Infantry Regiment, in the field, 4 December 1916, and posted to 8th Company. Found guilty, 9 March 1917, of appearing on parade unshaven: awarded 3 days' Field Punishment No 2. Found guilty, 10 April 1917, of loss of Government property (helmet and satchel): awarded 3 days' Field Punishment No 2, and to pay half the cost of the helmet )1s 1d).
