Military Medal 'For great gallantry and devotion to duty. Near Gravenstafel on the 4th October this NCO was in charge of the Battalion Stretcher Bearers. He led his party continuously for 36 hours, working the whole time with great determination and courage. Time after time he had to work back to the regimental aid post through a heavy barrage. He set a splendid example of endurance and cheerfulness to his men, and his work throughout was of the highest order.'
