Mentioned in Despatches 'Conspicuous bravery and ability as a patrol leader. In the Cordonnerie sector near Armentieres he repeatedly led a patrol through and behind long section of the enemy's trench, bringing back most valuable information concerning the battalion
of the enemy's troops opposite the battalion front. On the night 16th/17th February 1917 Sergeant Wood, leaving his party, alone moved along the enemy's
trench and, approaching a strong post, secured information from close observations as enabled his Battalion Commander to have the most suitable
arrangements for an attack on the post.
