Mentioned in Despatches 'On the night of the 9th June, 1917, he was detailed to accompany the Brigade Forward Observation Officer going forward to Messines from position on Hill 63. On arrival at Messines Ridge at 2am on the 10th June he was instructed to lay a
wire to Battalion Headquarters near Messines. Though this was a most difficult task, he succeeded in laying the wire, thus establishing communication between the Forward Observation Officer and his Brigade by 4am. Owing to the heavy
German barrage the wire was constantly out, but regardless of personal risk, Wilson succeeded in keeping the Forward Observation Officer in touch with his Brigade throughout the 24 hours. This wire laid was the first to connect the Forward Observation Officer with his Brigade, thus establishing the first communication from Messines Ridge to Brigade Headquarters by wire.'
