'For magnificent courage and coolness under fire during attack on Messines Ridge. This man on June 8th took his bearer squad repeatedly through heavy artillery fire keeping the advanced regimental aid posts clear of wounded whom he brought safely back. He also brought back many wounded who were lying in shell holes under heavy fire. His coolness and bravery during the whole time was a magnificent example to the other men.'
