'Operations Somme, South east of High Wood, Flers Grid Trenches - September 20th to October 1st 1916. During the above operations Captain Wilson did magnificent work, first as a second-in-command of a Company and latterly in command of a Company. He was killed leading his men in the most gallant way at the taking of the Grid Support Trench on October 1st. This Officer has always displayed the greatest devotion to duty and utter disregard of danger. He did excellent work not only in Gallipoli as Adjutant of his Regiment but also during the summer of 1916 when holding the line east of Armentieres.'
