An officer & myself found his body on the following morning. I did not know this man at all well, but I remember the name quite well in the pay book which we found on his body. He had been killed by a piece of shell which had caught him on the back of the head. He must have been killed instantly. I do not know anything of his burial, but no doubt he was buried.'
