Military Medals 'Operations: British Front near Ruyaulcourt 4th September 1918. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During the above operations Private Wilson did heroic service as Company Stretcher Bearer in carrying out wounded men. This he did during the whole day and in the evening searching beyond the front line rescuing wounded, all the time he was under machine gun fire. In addition after the Company relief that night, 4th September 1918, he went back from the village
of Ruyaulcourt on three occasions to the front line, no wounded men being left out. The whole area of the village at this time was soaked in gas which made his work of more then a very trying ordeal. This man has set a very high standard to
other stretcher bearers and has been regarded with admiration for his devoted work.'
