Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty on July 15th at Gommecourt. When his Platoon Commander and all NCOs had become casualties he took charge
and led his men three times against an enemy post. He was forced to retire on each occasion and then consolidated. Later he obtained more men and attacked
the post again and captured it. His bold leadership and determined bravery were a fine example to all his men.'
