'For gallant conduct and devotion to duty, during operations near Korak on the 12/13th October 1917. He was one of the Battalion Signallers, and continued to repair the lines and keep communication open under extremely trying circumstances, and later, although badly gassed, continued to carry out his duties until ordered away.'
